I went to the #denvertweetup at the Breckenridge Brewery last night and it was great! The folks at the brewery went out of their way to make sure that everyone had a good time, and I appreciated the level of service provided by their staff. More than anything, I have got to give props to
Allen Klosowski for leveraging his influence to serve the local Twitter community.
For those of you who have never been to a tweetup, they can be a little awkward at first. If you are active on twitter, you’ve probably tweeted with many of the attendees. However, you don't really “know” them, so it may feel a little like the first day of class at a new school. Fortunately, others are feeling the same way, so just go talk to anyone else who is looking a little lost to get past this feeling.
Another simple way to break the ice at a tweetup is to walk up to the first group you see and ask if they are fellow tweeters. Politely introduce yourself, ask them their Tweet ID’s, and give them your card or a small sheet of paper
with your Tweet ID so that it will be easy for them follow you later. (@eslice and @joshbezdek impressed me with this strategy so follow them for further insight)
Tweeting online is cool, but there is nothing like unplugging from the twitter
Matrix and connecting in the real world, face to face, with your fellow tweeps. I am proud to be a part of this burgeoning community and I look forward to meeting all of you at future events.
Maybe I will host one soon...
